Berks native debuts new web series 'Cypher' at Reading IMAX

Berks County native and current Los Angeles resident Joseph Lisa debuts his new web series prologue “Cypher” during a free screening at the Reading Movies 11 and IMAX on July 29 at 4 p.m.

“I spent my grade school years in Hamburg before relocating to Leesport,” Lisa said. “Returning to Berks, at least for the time being, is a much needed breather but I intend to return to Los Angeles in the very near future.

Kutztown Kruizz attracts anticipated 300 vehicles, thousands of spectators

Cars of all sorts head to Kutztown on Saturday, July 28 for the 4th annual Kutztown Kruizz.

The Kruizz, hosted by Kutztown Community Partnership, invites classic and show worthy cars to West Main Street. The event begins with registration and staging at Kutztown University from 10:30 a.m. to noon, then a parade of vehicles heads down Main Street.

Mission Trip Birdsboro returns to July 18

Mission Trip Birdsboro was started by St. Paul’s UCC in Birdsboro in 2014 to help local homeowners in need with maintenance and home repairs. Five years later, it has grown to six local churches working together to help in the community.

This year Mission Trip Birdsboro has the largest number of applicants for assistance yet with 35 residences and three community projects.

StarFest 2018 hosted by The ChesMont Astronomical Society

Join the ChesMont Astronomical Society for a wonderful evening of astronomy on Saturday, Aug.11, from 5:30 to 11:30 p.m. at Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site, 2 Mark Bird Lane, Elverson (off Route 345 at Hopewell Road). Rain/cloud date is Sunday, Aug. 12. The program will feature speakers, astronomy presentations, and activities for kids.

Thrivent Action Team builds Little Free Library

A Thrivent Action Team at Robeson Lutheran Church hosted a project to build a new “Little Free Library” on Plow Road in Mohnton.

Building the Library took place in June and installation culminated on July 6. A Grand Opening will take place on Aug. 7 at the National Night Outd at 6 p.m. at Robeson Lutheran Church, Route 10 and Plow Road, Mohnton.

Garden Spot Village hosts Marketplace Vacation Bible School

Garden Spot Village will host a three-day Marketplace Vacation Bible School with the theme “Jesus is my Teacher,” July 17-19, from 9-11:30 a.m. each morning.

Children entering Kindergarten through Grade 6 are invited to attend. Children will enjoy music, drama, crafts and Bible stories each day.

Twin Valley support staff union votes to authorize a strike

Union members present at a recent meeting of The Twin Valley Education Support Personnel Association (TVESPA) voted unanimously to authorize a strike.

Association President, Donald Refford Jr., said the following: “We have now gone years without a raise. Not a dime. Meanwhile, administrators such as Bob Pleis and Rita and Scott Haddock have all taken substantial raises.

Twin Valley Rotary inducts new president

Chris Doyle was inducted as the 22nd president of the Twin Valley Rotary at the club’s June 28 meeting at the Windmill Restaurant. Chris will be serving from July 1, 2018 to June 30, 2019.

Serving on the club’s board will be the following officers: Mary Ellen Mahan, secretary; Reid Herren, treasurer; and Les Groves, Rotary Foundation chair.
