From West Reading-Wyomissing Rotary Club
A spectacular 2025 Berks County Field of Heroes display, presented by the West Reading-Wyomissing Rotary Club, provided those who visited the Wyomissing Stone House Pond and walked the trails an opportunity to reflect on the dedicated U.S. flags. A celebration ceremony held on Thursday, July 3, featured inspiring speeches from local officials and community leaders. The West Reading-Wyomissing Rotary Club is grateful for the incredible collaboration in making the 2025 Berks County Field of Heroes experience a success for the local community. Together, they created a powerful tribute that inspires us all by honoring our heroes.
The Celebration of Heroes included the Presentation of Colors by Berks County Sheriff Honor Guard, the Pledge of Allegiance led by William Tobin, Berks County Veterans Affairs, the National Anthem performed by Eagle Scout Benjamin Small, and Taps sounded by LCDR Paul Wolfinger, USN. A Rotary message and a Moment of Reflection and Honor were shared by Rotary District 7430 District Governor Nominee Jeremiah Sensenig (and Capacity Financial Stars & Stripes Sponsor).
Berks County comments were provided by Senator Judy Schwank, Representative Johanny Cepeda-Freytiz, Berks Commissioner Christian Leinbach, acknowledgement of Berks Commissioners Michael Rivera and Dante Santoni, Wyomissing Borough Manager Michele Bare, West Reading Borough Manager Randy Miller, along with Dr. Charles Barbera, President/CEO of Reading Hospital (Old Glory Sponsor). The 1st Pennsylvania Regiment of the Continental Line provided musket salutes to honor our heroes.

West Reading-Wyomissing Rotary collaborated with Reading Hospital to provide a mental health and wellness table promoting mental well-being to improve the mental health of our communities. A flag disposal box was available for proper flag retirement.

A hero is defined as a person who is admired for their courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. Visitors to the Wyomissing Stone House Pond from Monday, June 30, through Monday, July 7, walked among 260 posted U.S. flags. These dedicated flags were the West Reading-Wyomissing Rotary Club’s 2025 Berks County Field of Heroes, a testament to the strength, courage, and unity that defines us as Americans.
Each flag tells a unique story ranging from Active-Duty Military Personnel, Fallen Servicemen & Women, Veterans, First Responders, Health Care Providers, Law Enforcement, Firefighters, Educators & Mentors, Community Impact Leaders, Non-Profit Leaders, Good Samaritans, Family Members, Hometown Heroes, and more.

Doug Myers, President of the West Reading-Wyomissing Rotary Club and Chair of the 2025 Berks County Field of Heroes, said “The primary purpose of the Field of Heroes is to bring our community together to honor the heroes in our lives, share what Rotary does, and raise funds that the West Reading-Wyomissing Rotary Club uses to make a positive impact on various community service projects and initiatives.”
Charles F. Barbera, MD, Reading Hospital President/CEO (Old Glory Sponsor) said, “Reading Hospital is proud to support the Berks County Field of Heroes to honor the brave military personnel, first responders, and many in our community and across the nation who keep us safe and make our community a better place to live, work, and play. On behalf of our entire team, I thank these individuals and their families for their sacrifice. As part of our established partnership with the West Reading-Wyomissing Rotary Club, we have begun to partner on other important projects involving mental health awareness and education. I encourage everyone to take a moment to reflect. Should you need us, the team at Reading Hospital is available 24 hours a day.”

The Club partnered with Wyomissing Borough Park & Recreations Department to enhance the community July 4 celebration and have a central location in Berks County.

A complete listing of sponsors and supporters along with a list of who the U.S. flags were dedicated in honor of or in memory of can be found at the West Reading-Wyomissing Rotary Club website at: Home Page | Rotary Club of West Reading-Wyomissing (clubrunner.ca) under the 2025 Field of Heroes tab on the home page.

The display and medallion dedications remind us of the courage, hope, and enduring strength of our heroes as symbolized by the U.S. flag. Plans are underway for another heartfelt celebration of our heroes during the week of July 4, 2026, marking the 250th anniversary of the United States Declaration of Independence.
