3 Berks field hockey teams clinch berths in state tournament

Berks champion Twin Valley, Wilson and Oley Valley clinched berths in the PIAA Tournament Saturday with wins in the quarterfinals of the District 3 Field Hockey Championships.

Fleetwood will have to wait for a second chance on Tuesday.

Twin Valley defeated visiting Garden Spot 5-0 in Class 2A, Wilson earned a 4-1 home win over defending champion Central Dauphin in Class 3A and Oley Valley downed visiting Susquehanna Township in Class 1A.

Fleetwood suffered a 5-0 road loss to Northern in Class 2A.

Twin Valley 5, Garden Spot 0: At Twin Valley, Natali Foster had three goals and an assist to lead the second-seeded Raiders (21-2) over the seventh-seeded Spartans.

The victory moves Twin Valley into the semifinals Wednesday to host third-seeded Northern at 5 p.m.

Laura Sosko and Adriana Hall also scored for Twin Valley and Emma Winther had two assists.

Maddie Stevens made four saves to post the shutout.

Wilson 4, Central Dauphin 1: At West Lawn, Kayla Wilkes scored two goals to lead the fourth-seeded Bulldogs (17-4) over the Rams (13-5).

The victory advances Wilson to the semifinals Wednesday at top-seeded Lower Dauphin at 7 p.m.

Emma Staron and Alexis Hoffman also scored goals for Wilson, which outshot Central Dauphin 20-3.

Oley Valley 2, Susquehanna Township 0: At Oley, Taylor Vaccaro and Tetje Williamson scored goals to lead the top-seeded Lynx (19-2) over the eighth-seeded Indians (15-5).

Vaccaro scored in the second quarter off an assist from Lauren Schaeffer and Williamson scored in the third off an assist from Molly Rothenberger.

Oley Valley finished with advantages of 15-0 in shots and 13-1 in penalty corners to post its 13th shutout of the season.

The Lynx will host Boiling Springs in a semifinal game Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Northern 5, Fleetwood 0: At Dillsburg, Abigail Simpson had two goals and an assist to lead the third-seeded Polar Bears (18-2) over the sixth-seeded Tigers (16-5).

Elizabeth Miller made 16 saves and Natalie Slusser had a defensive save for Fleetwood.

The Tigers will host Garden Spot in a 2A playback game on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The top seven teams in Class 2A advance to the PIAA Tournament.
