from Abilities in Motion

Abilities in Motion (AIM), an organization focused on providing services, support, and advocacy to help individuals with disabilities live independent and self-determined lives, is hosting a grand opening for Rollie’s Place cafe on Wednesday, Dec. 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Abilities in Motion’s headquarters, 755 Hiesters Ln., Reading. Patrons visiting the cafe during the grand opening will receive 20% off the full menu between 10 a.m. and noon.

Rollie’s Place is open to the public and designed as an open, airy, sensory-friendly cafe with state-of-the-art appliances, hooded chairs that can reduce noise, and a private seating area that further reduces sensory stimulants. Rollie’s Place offers specialty coffee, espresso, and tea, as well as a selection of freshly crafted soups, salads, baked goods, and sandwiches. Rollie’s Place also offers smoothies, bottled and fountain drinks, and snacks.

Abilities in Motion hired Chef James Kraemer as General Manager of Rollie’s Place. Chef Kraemer was classically trained in French cuisine at Le Cordon Bleu in Hollywood, California, and has more than a decade of culinary experience preparing scratch-made dishes with fresh ingredients. He brings his affinity for Italian, Japanese, Korean, Mexican, and modern “New American” cuisine to the café. Chef Kraemer will ensure compliance with food handling, serving, cleaning, and safety regulations while leading all team members and creating exceptional experiences for Rollie’s Place’s customers.

Previously, Chef Kraemer was the executive chef at State Hill Craft Cocktails & Kitchen in Wyomissing. Chef Kaemer has also held culinary positions at Take Flight Restaurant Group’s Oori, Building 24, The Speckled Hen, Lemon Poppy Kitchen, and Klean LA in California.

“We wanted to create a model for how other businesses could affordably design and open inviting spaces that are universally accessible and welcoming for our community and the public,” stated Stephanie Quigley, executive director of Abilities in Motion. “Rollie’s Place will also offer opportunities for individuals with disabilities that have an interest in food services to gain employable skills while earning a living wage.”
