About 500 volunteers pack meals in United Way of Berks event

The United Way of Berks County’s Big Cheese event was held Friday night at Penn State Berks.

More than 500 volunteers packaged 250,000 nutritionally fortified macaronia and cheese meals, which will be distributed to families in need by Reading School District and Helping Harvest Fresh Food Bank in Spring Township, organizers said.

Volunteers included families and employee teams from Berks businesses, organizers said.
