Albright College Expands STEM Offerings With Three Undergraduate Technology-Focused Majors

From Albright College

Albright College is proud to announce the addition of three undergraduate majors to its academic offerings: Artificial Intelligence (AI), Computer Science (previously a co-major), and Cybersecurity. These innovative programs will launch in the fall 2026 semester, positioning Albright at the forefront of technology education and preparing students for high-demand careers in the digital economy.

The majors reflect Albright’s commitment to providing students with cutting-edge educational opportunities that respond to evolving workforce needs. Each program has been carefully designed to combine rigorous technical training with the liberal arts foundation that is the hallmark of an Albright education.

“These programs represent a significant step forward in Albright’s strategic vision to prepare our students for the jobs of tomorrow. By integrating these technology-focused majors into our curriculum, we’re not only responding to market demands but also fulfilling our mission to equip students with the interdisciplinary skills needed to solve complex problems in an increasingly digital world,” said Debra M. Townsley, Ph.D., President of Albright College.

Program highlights:

  • Artificial Intelligence: As automated systems change the landscape of society, we need graduates who understand them at a fundamental level. The Artificial Intelligence major goes beyond using AI tools. Students will understand the essential building blocks from computer science and data science that enable AI applications to be built. With a firm grounding in machine learning, computational theory, applications, and ethics, students will be prepared for roles in one of the fastest-growing sectors of technology.
  • Computer Science (previously a co-major): The Computer Science major will provide students with comprehensive training in computational problem solving, software engineering, algorithms, and artificial intelligence. The curriculum emphasizes applied computer science, preparing students to be ready to build the world’s next great apps, games, and AI applications. Modern best practices are infused in every class, including industry-relevant programming languages and connections to the humanities through design and ethics.
  • Cybersecurity: With data breaches and digital threats on the rise, the Cybersecurity major will train students to protect information systems and digital infrastructure. With a grounding in computer science, the program encompasses network security, cryptography, ethical hacking, digital forensics, and security policy, with a focus on practical applications and industry-recognized certifications.

All three Albright programs will be housed in the Science Center, featuring state-of-the-art computing labs, collaborative workspaces, and specialized equipment for hands-on learning experiences.

Albright faculty have collaborated with industry professionals to develop curricula that align with current best practices and emerging technologies. The programs will also feature guest lectures from leading technology professionals, opportunities for internships with regional and national companies, and capstone projects that address real-world challenges.

“These exciting applied technology programs will prepare students with industry-relevant skills. They also reflect our belief that tomorrow’s technology leaders need more than just technical abilities. They need the critical thinking, communication skills, and ethical framework that comes from a liberal arts education. Our graduates will not only know how to build software or secure systems. They’ll understand the human and societal implications of the technologies they create and maintain,” said David Kopec, Program Director of Computer Science and Information Technology.

Applications for the Fall 2026 semester are now being accepted. Prospective students interested in these new majors are encouraged to contact the Admissions Office or visit the Albright College website for more information.
