Jakob Kelly scored a season-high 25 points as Alvernia defeated Stevebson 95-75 in a Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth Game Saturday at Jack McClosky Court.
With the score 47-47 early in the second half, Alvernia went on a 9-2 run to start to pull away. The Golden Wolves (6-2, 11-5) extended the lead as high as 20.
Malik Green had 19 points for the Golden Wolves, who won their fourth straight, and Muhlenberg grad Jacob Stoudt had 14 points. Alvernia recorded 48 points in the paint and had 27 points off turnovers.
Kahlil Richard led the Mustangs (4-6, 9-8) with 17 points.
Albright 72, Hood College 85: At Frederick, Md., Christopher Smalls scored a game-high 19 points to lead the Blazers (10-1, 13-5) over the Lions (5-5, 9-9) in a MAC Commonwealth game.
Sidney Brown scored a team-high 14 points for Albright. Robert Mangum and Zyon Grant each scored 12.
The Lions had a four-point lead at halftime but were outscored 51-34 in the second half.
Trumaine Strickland finished with 15 points for the Blazers. Smalls made three 3-pointers and shot 4-of-4 from the line. Hood scored 25 points off turnovers.
Women
Albright 59, Hood College 53: At Frederick, Md., Gabby Boggs scored a game-high 24 points to lead the Lions (5-4, 10-6) over the Blazers (2-9, 5-13) in a MAC Commonwealth game.
Albright outscored Hood College 32-16 in the second half to overcome a 10-point halftime deficit. The Lions went on a 10-0 run and Boggs tied it at 41-41 on a fastbreak layup with 1:55 left in the third.
Amina Rauf grabbed a steal and followed it with a fastbreak layup to give Albright a 56-53 lead with 1:23 left in the game. Boggs made 3-of-4 free throws in the final minute to put it away.
Marlise Newson scored a team-high 17 points for the Blazers.
Maggie O’Hare had 16 points for Albright. Boggs finished with a season-high five steals.
Stevenson 61, Alvernia 54: At Jack McClosky Court, the Mustangs (6-4, 9-9) scored the first six points of overtime and held the Golden Wolves (2-7, 8-9) scoreless until the 1:06 mark to get the MAC Commonwealth victory.
Tamia Wessels converted two free throw attempts to score the only overtime points for Alvernia.
Jordan Karmonick hit a jumper with 19 seconds left to force overtime for the Golden Wolves.
Wessels scored a team-high 14 points for Alvernia. Taliyah Malone had 10 points and Karmonick 10 rebounds.
Karleigh Leo led the Mustangs with a game-high 16 points.
The Golden Wolves shot 2-of-29 on 3-point attempts.
