The 63rd annual Reading Hot Stovers Banquet is Thursday, Jan. 16 at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Reading.
The event starts at 5 p.m. with a cocktail hour from 5:15-6:15 p.m,.
Cost is $95 per person.
Along with three speakers, award winners will be recognized.
The guest speakers are Buck Showalter, Veronica Alvarez and Gary Mathews.
Showalter was an outfielder/first baseman in the Yankees system for seven years. He was the Yankees’ third base coach from 1990-91 and named the team’s manager in 1992.
He was a major league manager for 22 years for the Yankees, Diamondbacks, Rangers, Orioles and Mets.
He won 1,727 games during his managerial career. He currently works as an analyst on TV for MLB Network.
Alvarez played softball for Villanova University was a catcher for the Women’s National Baseball team.
She is the current manager of Women’s National Baseball Team. She won a gold medal in 2015 at the Pan American Games for Women’s National Baseball Team.
She currently works for the Oakland Athletics.
Mathews played 16 seasons in the major leagues for the Giants, Atlanta, Phillies, Cubs and Mariners.
He had 234 home runs, 2,011 hits and a .281 batting average. He was the 1973 NL Rookie of Year, 1983 NLCS MVP.
He was a Phillies analyst on TV and radio from 2007 to 2013.
