Antietam’s Josh Bauer wins BCIAA boys individual bowling tournament

Josh Bauer of Antietam won the BCIAA boys individual bowling tournament at Berks Lanes Wednesday. Bauer rolled games of 300, 214, 257 and 268 on the second day of the two-day event for a 1,039 series and an eight-game total of 1,976.

Bauer’s 300 was the second of his career. He rolled his first 300 in last year’s tournament.

“I shot 300 last year in the same tournament, so the thought was there beforehand,” said Bauer, a senior. “I was definitely nervous and there was a lot of pressure today.”

On Monday, Bauer rolled games of 247, 197, 279 and 214 for a series of 937, good for fourth place, 131 pins behind teammate Ayden Davis, the leader after the first day at 1,068.

Bauer said he didn’t make any changes heading into the second day.

“I stuck with the same ball and threw the same line,” he said. “It just worked today.”

Including Bauer, three members of the Antietam team took home medals. Davis, who had a second-day total of 887, finished second at 1,955, followed by John Giglio of Wilson at 1,947, Keith Lerch of Exeter at 1,927, Ethan Reimert of Exeter at 1,908 and Zane Ciabattoni of Antietam at 1,833.

Antietam coach Matt Ahearn said that he was more than proud of the individual performances his team gave at the tournament and knew they all could do well.

“Honestly, I’m really excited for what they did,” Ahearn said. “We know that they have that success in them, and in this tournament they all came out and did what we knew they could do. And with Josh, we knew he had the ability to have big games, so its great to see him do that today.”

Looking ahead to the BCIAA team tournament, which begins at Berks Lanes on Tuesday Feb, 22nd. at 3:30 p.m., Bauer said he is confident that his team has what it takes to win it all.

“All of us did really well in this county tournament, so we’re the ones to beat and have a lot of confidence going in,” Bauer said.

Antietam earned a bye for the first round of the tournament as the Berks II champ. Ahearn said he is also looking forward to seeing what his team can do in next week’s event.

“I think if the guys bring their game like we know they can bowl, we’ll make it interesting,” Ahearn said.
