DOUGLASSVILLE —The Apple Festival is back at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
The festival ran for 10 years until the COVID-19 pandemic made it impossible to hold the event in 2020. After a four-year hiatus, the organizers of the annual Apple Festival felt it was time to bring back the apple-focused and family-friendly day of fun.
“We as a church love having it. We wanted to give an opportunity for families to get out and have an enjoyable day,” event organizer Bill Kutz said in a press release when discussing why it was important to bring this event back to the community.
This year’s festival is set for Saturday, Sept. 28, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 548 Old Swede Road.
To kick off the festival, community members are invited to bring their pets for the blessing of the animals by the church’s pastor, Rev. Gregory W. Frey, at 9 a.m.
This year’s event will feature many of the favorites the community will remember from previous years including apple pancakes for breakfast, hamburgers and hot dogs for lunch, with new items like Rubens, apple chips, and waffles and ice cream. As always, there will be apple dumplings and apple pie until sold out.
“People should get there early. The apple dumplings and pie sell out fast,” Kutz said in the release.

Also back are moon bounces, games, face painting, and an art bus. Party Animals Express will be there as well. Organizers will sell wristbands for all of the children’s activities for $10 for the first child and $5 for each sibling.
New for this year will be an apple-centric baking contest. Bakers are encouraged to dig out their apple recipes and sign up for the contest. For more information, go to the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Facebook page.
