The BARTA Transportation Center in downtown Reading will close this week due to construction.
The transportation center at Eighth and Cherry streets will close on Sept. 3 and is expected to reopen on Sept. 8.
The center will remain open for customers to purchase bus passes, but anyone who needs to get on a bus must do so on Cherry, Penn or Eighth streets.
The customer waiting area will also be closed, so customers will not be able to wait inside the during the closure.
The following will be the alternate bus stops for each route:
Route 1 – Temple via 5th Street:
Outbound: Cherry Street between Eighth Street and the railroad tracks.
Inbound: Eighth and Penn streets (far side). The bus will then continue on Cherry Street.
Route 2 – Fairgrounds Farmers Market:
Outbound: Eighth and Penn streets (Far side).
Inbound: Penn Street at Ninth Street.
Route 3 – Temple via Kutztown Road:
Outbound: Use existing stops along Ninth Street. No alternate stop at the transportation center
Inbound: Eighth and Penn streets (far side). The bus will then continue to regular route.
Route 4 – 10/11th Streets:
Outbound: Use existing stops along Ninth Street. No alternate bus stop at the transportation center.
Inbound: Penn Street at Ninth Street.
Route 5 – Albright College:
Outbound: Bus will continue regular route to Penn Street. Alternate stop at Penn and Ninth streets.
Inbound: Eighth and Penn streets (Far side).
Route 7/Pennside:
Outbound: Eighth and Penn streets (Far side).
Inbound: Penn and Ninth streets.
Route 8 Reiffton/Shelbourne Square:
Outbound: Eighth and Penn streets (far side). The bus will then continue to Penn and Ninth streets to regular route.
Inbound: Ninth and Penn streets.
Route 11 – Mohnton via Shillington:
Outbound: Cherry Street before crossing Eighth Street in the 900 block.
Inbound: The bus will continue past the transportation center on Franklin Street to Ninth Street to Cherry Street. Alternate stop will be on Cherry Street before crossing Eighth Street in the 900 block.
Route 12 – Lincoln Park via Reading Hospital:
Outbound: Cherry Street between Eighth Street and the railroad tracks.
Inbound: Ninth and Penn streets
Route 14 – Wernersville via Sinking Spring/Womelsdorf:
Outbound: Cherry Street between Eighth Street and the railroad tracks.
Inbound: Fifth Street at Penn Street Bus Stop #8 and on Penn Street before Eighth Street at Lion’s Den.
Route 15 – Berkshire Mall:
Outbound: Cherry Street between Eighth Street and the railroad tracks. And on Fifth Street at Penn Street Bus Stop #5.
Inbound: Sixth and Penn Streets and on Penn Street before Eighth Street at Lion’s Den.
Route 16 – Broadcasting Square:
Outbound: Cherry Street between Eighth Street and the railroad tracks. And on Fifth Street at Penn Street Bus Stop #5.
Inbound: Eighth and Penn streets (far side). The bus will then continue on Cherry Street.
Route 17 – Glenside:
Outbound: Cherry Street between Eighth Street and the railroad tracks. And on Fifth Street at Penn Street Bus Stop #3.
Inbound: Fifth and Penn streets and on Penn Street before Eighth Street at Lion’s Den.
Route 18 – Schuylkill Avenue:
Outbound: Cherry Street between Eighth Street and the railroad tracks. And on Fifth Street at Penn Street Bus Stop #1.
Inbound: Eighth & Penn streets (far side). The bus will then continue on Cherry Street.
Route 19 – Cotton Street:
Outbound: Franklin and Orange streets (far side) and Eighth and Penn streets (far side).
Inbound: Ninth Street to Cherry Street. Alternate stop will be on Cherry Street before Eighth Street in the 900 block.
Route 19 – Riverside:
Outbound: Cherry Street between Eighth Street and the railroad tracks.
Inbound: Eighth & Penn streets (far side). The bus will then continue to Franklin Street.
Route 20 – Rt. 61/Hamburg/Cabela’s:
Outbound: Cherry Street between Eighth Street and the railroad tracks. And on Fifth and Penn Streets at Penn Street Bus Stop #8.
Inbound: Eighth and Penn streets (far side). The bus will then continue to Cherry Street.
Route 22 – Lyon Station/East Penn – Deka:
Outbound: Use existing bus stops along Ninth Street. No alternate bus stop at the transportation center.
Inbound: Eighth and Penn streets (far side).
