Berks boys tennis: Conrad Weiser’s Malik is player of the year

Berks singles champion Armaan Malik of Conrad Weiser has been named the Boys Player of the Year, the BCIAA announced Thursday.

Malik, a junior, was joined on the team by seven other players, including Dylan Bonds of Twin Valley.

Malik defeated Bonds 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 in the Berks final.

Also on the team are Daniel Boone senior Sam Shank, Exeter senior Donghu Kim, Gov. Mifflin freshman Mason Shultz, Reading senior Zach Schrader, Wilson senior Austin Kohler and Wyomissing junior Truman Peters.

Both then qualified for the PIAA Championships in Class 2A by placing in the District 3 tournament.

Malik was second and Bonds finished third at districts.

They will open play Friday, May 24 in the state tournament at Hershey Racquet Club.

Malik will play District 9 champion Luke Anderson, a senior, and Bonds will play District 7 champion Severin Harmon.
