Berks Catholic girls basketball coach Bob Birmingham passes Lloyd Wolf with his 627th coaching win

Berks Catholic’s Bob Birmingham reached another coaching milestone Tuesday, passing the late Lloyd Wolf in victories with his 627th as the Saints beat Twin Valley 63-28 in a Berks Girls Basketball League Division I-II game at Wolf Gymnasium.

Birmingham, who played for Wolf at Holy Name, is 627-300 in his 34th season. He is all-time leader in girls coaching wins in Berks. He coached at Holy Name for 22 seasons and has been the coach at Berks Catholic since its inception. The Saints are 6-0 in Berks I, 10-4 overall this season.

Wolf, who passed away at the age of 77 in 2017, went 626-381 in nearly 40 seasons leading the Holy Name boys. He retired early in the 2006-07 season.

He set the Berks record for boys coaching wins, which was broken by Snip Esterly at the gym named in Wolf’s honor in 2015 — with Wolf on the Saints bench to witness it.
