Berks Catholic, Twin Valley, High Point advance to District 3 girls volleyball semifinals

Berks Catholic and Twin Valley advanced to the District 3 Class 3A semifinals with victories Tuesday, while High Point won in the Class 1A quarterfinals.

The third-seeded Saints defeated sixth-seeded West York 3-1 (24-26, 25-15, 25-20, 25-17) at Wolf Gymnasium. The fifth-seeded Raiders beat fourth-seeded James Buchanan 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-19) at Mercersburg.

In Class 1A, the fifth-seeded Eagles came back after losing the first two games to beat fourth-seeded Millersburg 3-2 (19-25, 22-25, 25-20. 25-17, 15-9).

For the Saints (20-2), Jillian Avadanian had 37 digs and two aces, Olivia Jones had 18 kills, and Caroline Reedy had 15 kills and three digs.

For the Raiders (18-5), Alyssa Green had 37 assists, Emma Lessick had 11 kills and 11 digs, Jordyn Robinette had seven kills and 15 digs, and Laura Biegel had 13 kills and two blocks.

The semifinals are Thursday at 7 p.m. Berks Catholic will play at No. 2 York Suburban, a 3-0 winner over No. 7 Middletown. Twin Valley will play at top-seeded Spring Grove, a 3-0 winner over No. 9 Manheim Central. High Point will play at top-seeded Lititz Christian, which beat No. 8 Northern Dauphin Christian 3-0.

Berks County is guaranteed at least one Class 3A team in states as the top three qualify. Only the top two qualify in Class 1A.
