Berks Catholic’s Mider, Wilson’s Ojikutu win events at Henderson track invite

Berks Catholic senior Brady Mider won the shot put and the discus Friday night at the 19th annual Henderson Invitational at West Chester Henderson High School.

Mider won the shot with a heave of 61-6½ and the discus with a throw of 170-5, which are both personal bests for outdoor track for Mider. At the Nike Indoor Nationals in March, Mider threw 63-1¼ in the shot put.

Mider, a University of Iowa recruit, will defend both titles in the BCIAA Firing Meet Thursday and Saturday.

In the girls shot put at Henderson, Wilson junior Kemi Ojikutu won with a throw of 37-5½.  She was fifth in last year’s BCIAA Firing meet at 33-8 with then-senior D’Mornay Woollery of Muhlenberg winning in 36-1.

In the 100 hurdles, Wilson sophomore Violet Houck finished second in 15.48. She also placed fourth in 300 hurdles in 46.85.

In the girls discus, Wilson sophomore Maddie Henne placed second in 119-5.

In the 3200 meter run, three Berks County  athletes ripped off fast times.

Gov. Mifflin senior Kaitlyn Highduch finished fourth in 10:45.22 in the girls race with Greencastle-Antrim senior Claire Paci winning in 10:32.56. Exeter senior Gabrielle Keith was right behind Highduch, finishing in fifth place in 10:53.17.

Highduch is the defending champion in the event for this week’s BCIAA Firing Meet.

In the boys 3200 at Henderson, Exeter sophomore Chase Choudhry ran 9:14.79 for seventh place, beating defending BCIAA champion Zack Zerbe of Gov. Mifflin who was 19th in 9:29.66.

The Berks County record in the 3200 for the boys is 9:12.90 set by Reading High’s Dean Fournier in 1983.

Brady Ott of Council Rock North won the race in 9:04.43.

In the girls javelin, Wilson senior Cameron Niedrowski was fourth with a throw of 121-0.

In the boys high jump, Berks Catholic senior Joshua Mckoy took second place by clearing 6-2. He was also sixth in the triple jump in 41-11½.

In the boys javelin, Wilson senior Austin Valukevich was fifth in 151-10.

In the girls high jump, Berks Catholic senior Julia Rosenberg was fourth, clearing 5-0.

In the boys 400, Twin Valley sophomore Ben Brundy finished ninth in 50.61.

In the boys 800, Twin Valley junior Frankie DiSilvestro ran 1:56.61 for 14th place, with the winner being junior Ethan Walther of Salesianum in 1:51.97.

Berks Catholic’s 4 x 800 relay took fourth in the girls race in 10:14.84.
