Berks churches schedule mid-week Lenten worship, meals [Religion Digest]

• The Reading Vicinity Area Ministerial will hold Lenten services on Wednesdays at noon at New Hope Baptist Church, 621 Church St., Reading. Lunch is available for those age 62 and over after the services. There also will be services on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. at St. John’s Baptist Church, 437 S. Seventh St., Reading.

• Christ Lutheran Church, 222 Niantic Road, Douglass Township, Montgomery County, will hold Coffee and Conversation at 8:30 and 10 a.m. on Sunday in the Welcome Center. Lenten services will be held on Wednesdays at 7 p.m.

• St. John’s Lutheran Church, 45 N. Reading Ave., Boyertown, will offer a free drive-through, take-out meal on Saturday from 4:30-5:30 p.m. No registration necessary. Lenten worship will be held on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

• St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 5 W. Arch St., Fleetwood, will celebrate Youth Sunday during its 9 and 10:30 a.m. worship services. The Guild will be preparing soup for each Wednesday in Lent. For information/ordering, call Sandi Stern at 610-944-9143.

• Good Shepherd United Church of Christ, 170 Tuckerton Road, Muhlenberg Township, will gather on Wednesday at 6 p.m. for a meal of soup and bread followed by a time of going deeper into faith at 6:45.

• Calvary United Church of Christ, 640 Centre Ave., Reading, welcomes guest flutist Cindy Miller-Aungst on Sunday at the 10:30 a.m. worship service.

• Salem Lutheran Church, 8410  Lancaster Ave.,  Bethel Township, will welcome back the Rev. Barry Spatz as guest pastor for the 9:30 a.m. worship service on Sunday. A social time follows the service in the church’s Social Hall.

In order to have an event listed in the religion digest, it must be something that is not just a regular worship service. This includes things such as guest musicians or vocalists who are not members of the church choir; guest speakers; flea markets and other sales; meals, etc. Send information to
