Berks churches set worship services for day after Christmas [Religion digest]

Trinity United Church of Christ, 2449 Cumberland Ave., will be celebrating the first Sunday after Christmas with worship this Sunday at 10:15 a.m. Adult Church School will be held at 9 a.m. (Covid regulations followed. Masks are recommended for everyone regardless of vaccination status). The service will also be videotaped and posted on the church’s Facebook page after the service.

Zion and St. Paul’s United Churches of Christ worship at 301 W. High St., Robesonia, at 10:15 a.m. Sundays in person, by YouTube, by St. Paul’s Facebook and by telephone.  Details can be found at 1zion.org or sprucc.org.  The choir will sing. The service will include an unusual reading of the birth of Jesus.

Christ Lutheran Church, 222 Niantic Road, Bally, will worship on the First Sunday of Christmas on Sunday at 9 a.m.  Pastor Matthew Finney will be leading the congregation in the worship service and preaching the sermon. Assistant for the 9 a.m. service will be Denise Hoffman. Prior to the worship service, Coffee & Conversation will be held at 8:30 in the Welcome Center and then again following worship. The Confirmation class will meet in social hall for class at 10 a.m.  The Adult Bible Study Class will be held at 10 a.m. in the parlor.  As per the CDC guidelines for indoor gatherings, it is recommended that parishioners wear a mask when entering the church, during worship and upon leaving.

Schwarzwald Lutheran Church, 250 Church Lane Road, Exeter Township, will hold in-person worship of Lessons and Carols on Sunday in the Sanctuary at 10:30 a.m. Those not vaccinated must be masked. The recorded service will be available Monday on our Facebook page.

This Sunday, Christ Episcopal Church, 435 Court St., Reading, will hold one worship service — at 9 a.m. Face masks must be worn by anyone entering the church and must remain on at all times. Parking is available at the Abraham Lincoln Hotel parking garage and at the M&T Bank lot, both off of Washington Street. Accessible parking for those who need it is available beside the church on Court Street. A Morning Prayer service, from The Book of Common Prayer, will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Red Bridge recreational area, weather permitting.

Reformation Lutheran Church, 3670 Perkiomen Ave., Exeter Township, will hold in-person worship Sunday at 9:30 a.m. (masks are required). The service will be live-streamed on Reformation’s Facebook page and may be viewed later at www.Reformationlutheran.org. under “worship videos”

St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Fleetwood, will have two services on Sunday, both in the sanctuary, at 9 (also online) and 10:30 a.m. There will be “Music from Around the World” with Greta Ertel on organ and piano, Jill Haley on oboe and Dave Cullen on guitar, and various other performers. Worship leaders will be Steven Wentz at 9 and Stella Koch at 10:30. The links to the Facebook page and YouTube channel are found at www.stpaulsfleetwood.org.

Maidencreek Church, 261 Main St., Maidencreek Township, will hold a hybrid worship service of Lessons & Carols at 9 a.m. Sunday. It also includes piano solos by Willa Pinsk, Molly Johnson, Carter Flicker, Sophie Esterly, SaraAnn Harbonic, Anya Flicker and Megan Esterly; trombone Solo by SaraAnn Harbonic; flute solo by Kelli Rosenberger; the vocal and instrumental trio of Jeremy, Amy and Julia Powlis; as well as several congregational hymns. St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 45 N. Reading Ave., Boyertown, will hold a Christmas Day worship at 10:30 a.m., followed by free take-out Christmas meal from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. In-person worship is Sundays at 9:30 am. Livestreamed worship continues on YouTube (St. John’s ELC Boyertown). Children’s Sunday School is at 9:30 a.m. — register at www.stjohnsboyertown.org. Masks required at all indoor events and worship. Free drive-through, take-out meal every Saturday (except Dec. 25) from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.  No registration necessary.

Bern Reformed UCC, 3196 Bernville Road, is celebrating the 12 days of Christmas and will offer live worship Sunday at 9:30 a.m., or participate from your vehicle by means of an FM 87.9 transmission.

The 22nd annual Pork and Sauerkraut Dinner will be held on New Year’s Day at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 301 W. Penn Ave., Robesonia. It will be pick-up only from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will include pork and sauerkraut, mashed potatoes, green beans, apple sauce, roll and cake. $12 per meal.
