Berks DA investigating officer-involved shooting in Reading

Berks County District Attorney John Adams has taken charge of the investigation into an officer-involved shooting Wednesday in southwest Reading.

The incident occurred shortly before 5 p.m. outside a Wawa convenience store at 413 Lancaster Ave.

The investigation remains active, Adams said, declining to release further details as of Wednesday night. Additional information would be made available to the public possibly as early Thursday, he said.

Adams said one of two people inside a vehicle in the parking lot was shot. One person was transported to an area hospital, he said, but he added that he had no further information on the person’s condition.

According to radio traffic, EMS were dispatched shortly after the shooting for reports of a man with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

A second person in the vehicle may have sustained minor injury, but did not require treatment, Adam noted, using the pronoun “she.”

The perimeter of the convenience store property, including access to the parking areas and gas pumps, was cordoned off with yellow crime scene tape.

Multiple police and emergency vehicles and personnel remained on-scene hours after the incident.
