Berks high school football roundup: Conrad Weiser finishes off perfect regular season

Last week Conrad Weiser won the Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 3 football title. This week, the Scouts capped off a historic regular season by going undefeated.

Conrad Weiser defeated Unionville 28-27 in a non-league game Friday night to finish 10-0, the first unbeaten season for the Scouts since 1996.

The Scouts now head to the District 3 Class 5A playoffs where they will be one of four unbeaten teams in the field, one of them being LL Section 2 winner Conestoga Valley (10-0).

Against Unionville, quarterback Donovan Gingrich threw for two touchdowns and ran for another.

His second touchdown pass of the game, a 34-yarder to Evan Miller, gave the Scouts a 28-19 lead with 5:47 left to play.

Unionville pulled to within a point with 3:07 left when Owen Simcox scored on a two-yard run and Brody McLaughlin ran in the two-point conversion.

Miller also scored on a 3-yard run for the Scouts, giving them a 21-6 lead at halftime.

Gingrich completed 9 of 14 passes for 118 yards and rushed for 68 yards on 9 carries.

Exeter 71, Elizabethtown 0

Jayden Zandier rushed for four touchdowns in the first half and Exeter cruised to a 71-0 LL Section 2 win over Elizabethtown.

Zandier scored on runs of 24, 22, 4 and 12 yards. He also threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Aidan Dauble.

Exeter finished the regular season 9-1, 5-1 in LL Section 2.

Hamburg 59, Columbia 0

Blaise Ernst and Misael Oviedo each rushed for two touchdowns as Hamburg ended the regular season with a 59-0 LL Section 5 win over Columbia.

Ernst scored on runs of 5 and 13 yards, and Oviedo scored on runs of 64 and 20 yards.

Hamburg is 6-4 overall and finished 4-3 in LL Section 5.

Ephrata 35, Gov. Mifflin 21

Caleb Grant threw four touchdown passes as Ephrata defeated Gov. Mifflin 35-21 in an LL Section 2 game.

The Mustangs finish the regular season 5-5 overall and 3-3 in league play.

For Gov. Mifflin, LeBron Leaf scored on a 14-yard run, Javien Pletz had a15-yard TD run, and Grady Garner scored on a 6-yard run.

Hempfield 42, Reading High 18

The Red Knights finished the season 2-8 overall, 1-5 in LL Section 1 after losing 42-18 to Hempfield on Friday night.

For Reading High, Braylon Williams scored on a 34-yard fumble recovery, Gabe Laws ran one-yard for a touchdown and Xavier Beatty caught a 16-yard touchdown pass from Jason Plylaharn.

Berks Catholic 49, Annville-Cleona 14

Quarterback Zach Suski passed for 228 yards and four touchdowns as Berks Catholic defeated Annville-Cleona 49-14 in an LL Section 5 game.

The Saints finish the regular season 6-4, 5-2. Annville-Cleona finishes 46-, 3-4.

Suski threw touchdown passes to Nate Rose (24 yards), Gavin Walker (59), Bryce Gumby (13) and Jackson Kozik (18).

Gumby also rushed for three touchdowns – 5, 44 and 33 yards.

Cocalico 21, Fleetwood 17

Josh Myer scored on a 37-yard run in the middle of the fourth quarter to lift Cocalico to a 21-17 LL Section 3 win over Fleetwood.

The Tigers finish the season 3-7, 0-6. Cocalico is 7-3, 5-1.

For Fleetwood, Chase McMonagle threw touchdown passes of 83 and 21 yards to Davyan Moore.

Gryffin Cappellano kicked a 45-yard field goal for the Tigers.

Pequea Valley 26, Kutztown 20

Drew Tibbins scored on a two-yard run with 5:51 left to play to break a 20-20 tie and give Pequea Valley a 26-20 win over Kutztown in a LL Section 5 game.

The Cougars finish the season 1-9, 1-6. Pequea Valley is 5-5, 3-4.

For Kutztown, Mason Sherry gained 108 yards on 14 carries.

Conestoga Valley 52, Muhlenberg 22

Quarterback Sawyer Esbenshade threw for 251 yards and four touchdowns as Conestoga Valley beat Muhlenberg 52-22 to finish off a perfect regular season.

Conestoga Valley is 10-0, 6-0 in LL Section 2. Muhlenberg finishes 3-7, 1-5.

For the Muhls, Cameron Small rushed for 290 yards on 35 carries and scored all three of their touchdowns.

Twin Valley 42, Daniel Boone 6

Chase Reilly rushed for 160 yards and quarterback Evan Myers ran for 112 and passed for 114 yards and four touchdowns as Twin Valley finished its regular season with a 42-6 LL Section 4 win over Daniel Boone.

The Raiders (8-2, 5-2) will play in the District 3 Class 4A playoffs starting next weekend.

Daniel Boone ends the season 1-9, 1-6.
