Berks high school sports honor roll: September 25, 2023

Boys cross country

Gov. Mifflin senior Zack Zerbe won by more than a minute in 15:44 as the Mustangs went 2-1 in a quad meet, beating Daniel Boone and Wilson and falling to Exeter.

Girls cross country

Gov. Mifflin senior Kaitlyn Highduch won in 18:34.4 to lead the Mustangs to wins over Exeter, Daniel Boone and Wilson in a quad meet.

Field hockey

Twin Valley senior Maddie Stevens made 20 saves in a 1-0 win over Cocalico and 17 saves, including the 700th over her career, in a 1-0 victory over Wilson.

Football

Kutztown sophomore Mason Sherry ran for 163 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries to help the Cougars defeat Hamburg 35-34 for their first win over a Berks team since 2016.

Golf

Gov. Mifflin junior Nate Radwanski shot a 2-under 45 through 12 holes to help lead Gov. Mifflin to a 197-229 win over Oley Valley. Radwanski also shot a 1-over 48 through 12 holes in a 205-246 victory over Schuylkill Valley.

Boys soccer

Conrad Weiser junior Gavin Rapp had two goals and one assist in the Scouts’ 3-0 win over Exeter and scored a goal in a 4-0 victory over Gov. Mifflin.

Girls soccer

Wyomissing senior Annie McCaffrey had two goals and two assists in the Spartans’ 6-0 win over Tulpehocken before recording two goals and an assist in a 6-0 victory over Hamburg.

Girls tennis

Exeter sophomore Myah Marturano went 4-0 at No. 2 singles to help the Eagles go unbeaten. She won 6-0, 6-0 in a 6-1 victory over Muhlenberg; 6-0, 6-1 in a 5-2 win over Reading High; 6-0, 6-2 in a 4-3 victory over Wilson; and 6-2, 6-2 in a 3-2 non-league victory over Berks Catholic. She also teamed with Hansika Kunduru to win at No. 1 doubles vs. Wilson.

Girls volleyball

Berks Catholic senior Olivia Jones had 21 kills, 11 digs and one block to help the Saints come back after losing the first two sets to beat Fleetwood 3-2. She also had 12 kills, 10 digs and two aces in a 3-0, non-league win over York Catholic and 10 kills and three digs in a 3-0 win over Wyomissing.

Boys water polo

Exeter senior Kaiden Hughes made 17 saves in the Eagles’ 15-10 loss against Gonzaga at the Beast of the East Tournament. Hughes also made 12 saves in Exeter’s 11-10 loss against Lawrenceville, and 10 saves in the Eagles 10-8 win over Pennridge, all in the Beast of the East.

Girls water polo

Wilson senior Mikayla Arthur scored 16 goals over five games in the Beast of the East Tournament to help lead the Bulldogs to a runner-up finish. Arthur had three goals and one assist in an 11-3 win over Springfield, two goals in a 12-6 victory against Erie Cathedral Prep, three goals and one assist in a 9-1 win over Souderton, four goals in a 13-3 victory over Pennridge and four goals and one assist in a 11-7 loss to North Penn in the championship game.
