It’s been 23 years since Kutztown won a Berks County softball title.
The drought is over, even if it extended a couple days longer than it was supposed to because of two weather-related postponements.
The Cougars beat Twin Valley 5-2 Saturday in the BCIAA championship game at Lyons Field to claim their 11th county title overall.
Winning pitcher Brianna Bauscher went the distance, giving up just 2 hits, striking out 4 and walking one batter.
For the Cougars (20-3), Jayden Gehris (2 hits) tripled and knocked in a run, and Bauscher and Ava Kutz also had RBIs.

Sadie Berger had 2 hits and Jade Fitzgerald doubled and scored a run.
For the Raiders (18-3), Ella Herbst doubled and Emma Hahn had their other hit.
Kutztown opens play in the District 3 Class 3A playoffs on Monday with a quarterfinal game. The second-seeded Cougars host seventh-seeded Upper Dauphin at 4:30 p.m. Eight teams qualified for the 3A tournament.
Twin Valley is the third seed in the Class 5A bracket and hosts 14th-seeded 14 Manheim Central (11-9) at 4:30 p.m. Monday in a first round game. Fourteen teams qualfied for the 5A tourney.
