Berks teams win both doubles titles in girls tennis in District 3

Berks County teams brought home a pair of gold medals at the District 3 Girls Tennis Doubles Championships Saturday at Hershey Racquet Club.

Conrad Weiser’s top-seeded team of Emma Perkins and Michelle Timothy won the Class 2A title, and Muhlenberg’s top-seeded team of sisters Jen Manta and Judith Manta won in Class 3A.

Perkins and Timothy defeated Kennard-Dale’s Brianna Serruto and Grace Maccarelli 6-1, 6-0 in the final after beating Wyomissing’s fourth-seeded team of Elise Wang and Ananya Rai 6-0, 6-0 in the semifinals.

Manta and Manta, the Berks champs, defeated Red Lion’s Lexi Lakatosh and Sophie Lanius 7-5, 6-2 in the final after beating Reading High’s fourth-seeded team of Ashley Retana and Hailey Guerrero 6-1, 6-1 in the semifinals.

Wang and Rai qualified for states with a 6-2, 7-6 (5) win over Elco’s Ali Bender and Camryn Lehr in the third-place match in Class 2A.

Retana and Guerrero fell to New Oxford’s second-seeded team of Anya Rosenbach and Allison Horick 7-5, 6-2 in a match for third in Class 3A and a state berth.

The title is the second straight for Perkins, who teamed with then-senior Alex Pancu to win last year’s District 3 and PIAA doubles titles in Class 2A.

The PIAA Doubles Championships will be held Nov. 5-6 at Hershey Racquet Club.
