Berks teen killed in motorcycle accident

A 16-year-old Berks boy was killed near Morgantown when his motorcycle hit a mailbox and utility pole, state police said.

The youth, who was identified as being from Mohnton, died at the scene of the crash on Route 23 in Lancaster County about halfway between Blue Ball and Morgantown in the area of the Church Town village, troopers said.

Troopers did not provide his name.

The teen was driving eastbound at a high rate of speed on a straight stretch shortly before 8 a.m. Saturday, troopers said.

He lost control of the motorcycle and it hit a mailbox, then the motorcycle and the youth hit a utility pole, troopers said. The motorcycle continued for about another 100 feet.

The boy was wearing a helmet, troopers said.

Information was unavailable from the Lancaster County coroner’s office.
