An Exeter Township woman is accused of financially exploiting a 78-year-old woman for whom she was the primary in-home caretaker.
Jennifer Konen, 46, of the 100 block of Schoffers Road was charged by detectives with the Berks County district attorney’s office with financial exploitation of an older or care-dependent person, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property and related counts.
According to detectives:
In April, detectives learned of allegations that numerous purchases were made using the 78-year-old woman’s debit card and bank account information without her consent.
The investigation revealed that between November 2023 and April, a total of 84 unauthorized purchases totaling about $4,500, were conducted.
A closer examination of the financial transactions revealed that many of these payments could be linked to accounts affiliated with Konen.
Konen was the primary in-home health care provider for the woman in 2023 and 2024.
Konen was interviewed by detectives as part of the investigation and admitted to the unauthorized transactions.
She turned herself in to members of the county detectives office on Tuesday after learning the charges had been filed. She remained free to await a hearing after following arraignment before District Judge Michael D. Kaufman in Birdsboro.
