Berks woman killed in motorcycle crash in Exeter Township

A woman driving a motorcycle was killed after she struck a minivan nearly head-on in Exeter Township, township police said Monday.

The Boyertown woman, whose name has not yet been released pending notification of her next of kin, was pronounced dead at Reading Hospital following Sunday’s crash, police said.

The accident occurred about 1:30 p.m. in the 5300 block of Boyertown Pike, also known as Route 562.

Police said the motorcycle was eastbound on Route 562 when it rounded a curve, crossed into the westbound lane and struck the westbound minivan near Loder Road.

It’s unclear why the motorcycle crossed lanes, police said.

The van was driven by Deborah Kirlin of Shillington, whose age was unavailable, police said. She was not hurt.

The road was closed for about 3 1/2 hours following the crash.

The investigation continues.
