Reading Community Players tops off its 2024 season by presenting the children’s show “I Hate Christmas” at the Perkins Auditorium on the Penn Berks Campus on Dec. 6 to Dec. 8.
Written by Marty Duhatschek, “I Hate Christmas” is a big-hearted holiday comedy that appeals to audiences of all ages. The cast features 20 Berks County area students, ages 7 to 15, including a 10-member Santa’s Elves Ensemble who sing and dance and bring merriment to the show.
“Most local kids shows are musicals,” director Debbi Silas said in the release. “This show is a full-length play about a pair of error-prone elves trying to get back into Santa’s good graces. The elves, Rolly and Dingo, head south on a mission to change the mind of a young orphan who wrote to Santa that he should call off Christmas. It has all the makings of an entertaining Christmas show — a group of Misbegottens, a mean headmaster, two crazy elves, and a little Christmas magic.”
Elijah Hershey, who plays Dingo, has a ball at rehearsals. He thinks everyone should come because “there are a lot of jokes for both grownups and kids. There’s humor in the dialogue but also in a lot of the things you’re going to see. It’s fun and enjoyable.”
Shows will be presented on Friday, Dec. 6 at 7 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 7, at 3 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 8, at 3 p.m. at the Perkins Auditorium, Penn State Berks Campus, 2080 Tulpehocken Road, Reading.
Tickets are $20 for adults, and $15 for students and seniors, and can be purchased online at readingcommplayers.com.
