Birdsboro resident Karis Toothman achieves Eagle Scout rank

A Scouts BSA Court of Honor was held on May 10 to celebrate the Eagle Scout rank achievement by Birdsboro resident Karis Toothman, who joined Troop 543G, Plowville in April 2021.

In attendance were friends, family, veterans, and Scouts from Troops 543G, 543B, 529, and Venturing Crew 22.

The daughter of a combat wounded Marine Corps veteran, Toothman chose as her Eagle Scout service project a cause that she is passionate about — honoring the service of veterans and their families.

In November 2023, Toothman hosted a veteran appreciation dinner for veterans and their families where she prepared a program and a meal for attendees and offered veterans the opportunity to share their experiences and insights gained during their military service.

A 2023 Twin Valley High School graduate, Toothman is majoring in criminal justice at Liberty University in Virginia.  Her future plans include continued service to her community.

Since 1911, only four percent of Scouts have earned the rank of Eagle Scout, which is the highest rank attainable in Scouts BSA. Requirements include earning at least 21 merit badges, 14 of which are mandatory for the award. The Eagle Scout must demonstrate Scout Spirit, service, leadership, and an ideal attitude based upon the Scout Oath and Scout Law. This includes an extensive service project that the Scout plans, organizes, leads, and manages.
