Blue Mountain educational camp programs approved

With summer fast approaching, the Blue Mountain School Board approved several educational camp programs.

A summer literacy boot camp will occur at Blue Mountain Elementary West July 8-11 and Aug. 12-15.

An English language arts education boot camp will take place at Blue Mountain Elementary East Aug. 6-8 and Aug. 13-15.

A Blue Mountain Elementary East STEAM summer camp will happen June 17-19 and June 24-26.

An elementary band camp his set for Aug. 5-6, and a Blue Mountain Elementary East camp connect will happen June 17-20.

At the board’s April 18 meetring, it was announced that some personnel decisions will need to be made that will impact the budget. The business office was still working with departments on finalizing numbers.

There are plans to split the position of director of facilities job into two positions: Director of Facilities and Chief of Safety and Security, effective upon approval.

Middle school science is looking for an updated text to replace one that’s been used for about 12 years. A new pilot program for science is being investigated.

The high school stage lights will be getting an upgrade, with funds coming from the capital reserve account.

The board approved the following at its April 25 meeting:

• Approving Mark G. Conville to provide architectural services including final design, construction bid set drawings, bid specification, permit sets, and specific construction administration for the improvement of athletic facilities at the high school at a cost of $15,000.

• A contract between Douglas Morgan and the district to serve as athletic director at a stipend of $10,300.

• William Chapman from junior high assistant wrestling coach to high school assistant wrestling coach at a stipend of $3,900, effective the 2024-2025 school year and replacing James Fasnacht.

• Gary Keener as junior high assistant wrestling coach at a stipend of $3,200 effective this fall.

• Madison Smith as elementary band director at a stipend of $840 effective the next school year, replacing Judy Devlin who is retiring.
