Body of homicide victim found on Mount Penn is identified

Authorities have identified the body of a suspected homicide victim found Monday afternoon in a park on Mount Penn.

Berks County acting Coroner Jonn M. Hollenbach said Tuesday that the victim was a man in his early 20s. Officials were withholding his name as the investigation continues.

An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday evening in Reading Hospital, Hollenbach said.

Police were called to Rotary Park in Lower Alsace Township on Monday about 2:40 p.m. after someone passing by on List Road spotted the body, District Attorney John T. Adams said Monday. The body was on a paved area about 20 feet off the side of the road.

Adams said it’s clear the person was the victim of a homicide.

The incident is being investigated by detectives from the district attorney’s office and the Central Berks Regional Police Department.

Central Berks Police Chief Raymond Serafin said Tuesday that the investigation remains quite active, but he declined to elaborate.

Adams asked anyone with information that may be relevant to the investigation to contact the district attorney’s office at 610-478-6000 or Central Berks police at 610-779-1100.
