A Reading man was shot and killed in his home Monday afternoon by his 14-year-old son, Berks County District Attorney John T. Adams said this morning.
The 14-year-old was arraigned Tuesday morning in Reading Central Court and is being held without bail to await a hearing on first- and third-degree murder charges, Adams said.
He is being charged as an adult and will be held in Wayne County Prison, which has a wing in which juvenile defendants are housed separately from the general population, the district attorney said.
Adams said the shooting took place at Locust and Greenwich streets, near their home in the 1100 block of Greenwich Street, at about 3:40 p.m. The circumstances of the killing are under review.
“We’re going to be taking a serious look at what precipitated this event,” he said. “We are going to be reviewing the history to hear and see what precipitated this horrific incident.”
Further details were unavailable.
This is a developing story.
