Boyertown loses to Frederick (Md.) in opener of Mid-Atlantic Regional

Boyertown’s trip to the American Legion’s Mid-Atlantic Regional tournament got off to a rough start Wednesday as the Bears fell to Frederick (Md.) 8-4 at Morgantown, W.Va.

Boyertown, the second seed from Pennsylvania, got off to a slow start in the tourney’s opening game, Frederick scoring four runs in the first inning. The Bears pulled even in a four-run third, but the Maryland champions got four more in the fifth to take the lead.

Steve Colucci drove in a pair of Boyertown runs with a two-run single, and Evan Hetrick had an RBI groundout. Cole Kratz, Travis Schiller, Luke Moser and Colin Eisenhard were other Bears hitting safely.

Nathan Fox took the loss for Boyertown, which will be back at Dale Miller Field 10 a.m. Thursday. It will play South Charleston (W.Va.) in an elimination game. South Charleston lost to Allentown (N.J.) 4-3 in 11 innings.
