Breast Cancer Support Services of Berks County (BCSS) is pleased to announce the appointment of two new members to the Board of Directors — Marie Smith of Smith Enterprises Consulting and Tania Lash of the McGlinn Cancer Institute, Reading Hospital, Tower Health. The staff and volunteers congratulate and welcome Marie and Tania.
Marie Smith is the owner of Smith Enterprises Consulting, providing small business and nonprofit bookkeeping, as well as support services for payroll and human resources. She is currently the treasurer of the board for BCSS after serving on the finance committee since July 2024.
She is a lifelong resident of Reading/Berks County and attended Central Catholic High School and Albright College Institute of Banking while working for the original American Bank here in Reading.
Since service is in her blood, she is an 18+-year member of the Spring Township Rotary, where the motto is “Service Above Self!” When asked to serve on the BCSS finance committee, she thought it would be a wonderful way to give back since her mother died of breast cancer many years ago.
Tania Lash is the System Director of Oncology at Reading Hospital, Tower Health, and a Registered Nurse passionate about the health and well-being of the community. She has more than 30 years of experience in health care, most of which has been in women’s health. She has been privileged to be a part of people’s stories in the most vulnerable times of their lives.
As a bedside nurse, she has delivered countless Berks County newborns and cared for their mothers and families. As a nursing leader, she cares for the nurses and staff who care for our community. Her passion is people.
She proudly holds two associate’s degrees from Northampton Community College — the first in cognitive therapy and the second in nursing. She earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing and a master’s degree in nursing-health care administration from Alvernia University. She is a board-certified Nurse Executive and maintains specialty certification in Inpatient Obstetric Nursing. She is a believer in lifelong learning.
Tania lives in Muhlenberg Township with her husband Matt. She loves spending time with her adult daughters, Natalie and Maya, who are 26 and 24. She and her husband are foodies and love to try new restaurants. She likes to hike, read, crochet, and go to the beach!
In 2023, her connection to BCSS happened organically when she transitioned to her current role at the McGlinn Cancer Institute and learned all the wonderful ways they support people with breast cancer. She is excited to be an active participant with BCSS and to serve the community in a new capacity.
The Board of Directors congratulates Marie and Tania on their nominations and election to the board.
