Bulletin board: Chalk and bubble festival in Kutztown

The Chalkpalooza Chalk and Bubble Festival is scheduled for Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Renningers Market, 740 Noble St., Kutztown. The event will feature chalk art, bubbles and other activities intended to bring people together in a celebration of kindness and creativity. It also includes a classic and exotic car show.

This event benefits The Camel Project, which is dedicated to eliminating bullying. Chalkpazooza is free and open to the public. Donations to The Camel Project are encouraged. For more information, go to www.thecamelproject.org/chalkpalooza.

Grief support

The sudSSpirit grief support group for those who have experienced the sudden unexpected death of a spouse or significant other will meet Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the Exeter Community Library, 4569 Prestwick Drive, Exeter Township. Identity theft program

Identity theft and how to protect yourself from it will be the subject of a free program at the Wyomissing Public Library on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Jeff Lentz, vice president and branch manager at M&T Bank’s Wyomissing office, will discuss how to identify the signs of identity theft and fraud, identify strategies to protect yourself from identity theft and fraud and outline learn safe habits to use to protect your data. He will also discuss the common scams used by fraudsters.

Pagoda fundraiser

The Foundation for the Reading Pagoda is holding a fundraiser Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Panera Bread, 4229 N. Fifth Street Highway, Muhlenberg Township. Panera will donate 25% of proceeds to Pagoda renovation efforts. The landmark is closed for repairs that are expected to cost $10 million. The nonprofit foundation is raising funds to help pay for the work.

Theology talk

The 2024-25 season of Theology with a Twist opens on Tuesday, Sept. 3, at 7 p.m. at the Kutztown Tavern, 272 W. Main St., with the Rev Kimberly Berenotto presenting “What Can the Church Learn from Taylor Swift?”

The program will dive into what Swift and her fans can teach the institutional church  about cultivating community and the importance of authentic participation and engagement. Berenotto, pastor of Longswamp UCC, will discuss the growth of syncretic spirituality and emphasize why personal experience must play a role in the communal and universal truths of faith.

Theology with a Twist meets in the upper room at the tavern. The event is free but food and drink can be purchased in the restaurant downstairs and brought to the event space. Parking is available in the community lot behind the tavern or on Main Street.

Agriculture update

State Sen. Judy Schwank invites Berks County residents to attend an agriculture update with state Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding and state Veterinarian Alex Hamberg on Wednesday, Sept. 4, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Penn State Berks Janssen Conference Center, Spring Township.
