Berks County emergency services personnel responded to a nearly constant stream of ambulance and fire calls late Friday through daybreak on Saturday.

Among the dispatches were three crashes that involved road closures:

Midnight: Utility pole hit with a vehicle rollover at Manatawny and Woodchoppertown roads in Earl Township. Crews learned that the driver was taken to a hospital privately, according to emergency reports. State police are investigating but have not yet issued information.

1:50 a.m.: Vehicle rollover at Kutztown and Hilltop roads in Maxatawny Township. The driver reported that his vehicle was also hit by another vehicle, and that he wasn’t hurt but couldn’t get out, according to emergency reports. The southbound lane was blocked. State police are investigating but have not yet issued information.

5:10 a.m.: Vehicle hit a utility pole in the 700 block of Frystown Road in Bethel Township. It was unclear if the driver was injured. Further details were unavailable.

There were also a few vehicles into ditches, a false fire call in Hamburg and a mattress fire in Reading among the other episodes. The pace of the 911 calls slowed by morning.

But, shortly after 8 a.m. Saturday, Western Berks Fire Department crews were investigating a hazmat call at their station at 111 Stitzer Ave., Wernersville. A bad battery on a firetruck was to blame, according to emergency reports.

The scene on Schuylkill Avenue in Reading where a male was found dead on Friday afternoon was cleared after 10 p.m. Friday. Police have issued no information about the entire event.
