Children learn about sea creatures during storytime event

What’s better than the smiles on the faces of local children.  Nothing we can think of which is one of the reasons the First Reformed Church of the United Church of Christ in Hamburg chose to partner with the Hamburg Public Library once again for a series of three summer events for local children.

“It was great to see the participation that the library events get!  The kids were so excited,” said Anne Marie Henne, president of the church consistory. “Children are our future – and whether they are learning about sea creatures, stories of the bible or celebrating Christmas in July – having kids in our church is a wonderful thing.”

First Reformed has hosted the library in prior years and will continue to support the library, said Henne.

“Our Library’s longstanding relationship with the church has benefited so many children, as we’ve held our larger youth programs in the church’s hall for years,” said Becky Hartman, Children’s Librarian.   “Attendance for this summer’s events at the church totaled over 300.”

Hartman had the children riveted and actively participating during the reading of a book about sea creatures.  She then deftly transitioned them to create their own stuffed sea animal during the July 12 event, Stuff-Your-Own Ocean Plush Storytime with Miss Becky.

As each child stuffed their ocean animal, Cheri Burkhardt shared, “The Library gets my kids out of the house and having fun all summer long.”

“I love building my own starfish Starfishy,” said Raven Mikucki.

“Building Jaws is fun, just like Build-A-Bear,” said Benjamin Rubon.
