Citation issued by Berks state police in an elbowing incident on the campaign trail

State police at the Hamburg station on Saturday said they issued a citation to a 75-year-old man on a charge of harassment by physical contact in an elbowing incident on the campaign trail in Schuylkill County.

James Saunders of Kempton, described by troopers as the father of a candidate for the state 124th District House seat, is cited in the elbowing of a rival candidate in the back during a break in a campaign event at the New Ringgold Fire Company on April 27.

Troopers said they were summoned April 28 to the Windsor Township residence of the 55-year-old victim, whose name was not provided, who reported the elbowing from the night before.

The troopers said: “The victim related that during one of the scheduled breaks, she was elbowed in the back for no apparent reason. Furthermore, the victim related that the assault occurred between she and another candidate’s father.”

There were no further details provided.

The case will be heard at the office of District Judge James R. Ferrier in Orwigsburg.
