The City of Reading’s 4th District is proud to announce a partnership with The Camel Project for Chalkpalooza: Chalk & Bubble Festival, a free, family-friendly, community-wide festival celebrating creativity, connection, and fun on Saturday, May 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at 13th and Union Elementary, 1600 N. 13th St., Reading.
Chalkpalooza is more than just fun in the sun—it’s a chance for neighbors to connect, celebrate creativity, and build community resilience. Partnering allows us to integrate arts, emotional wellness, and violence prevention in a joyful, inclusive setting.
Experience a day of creativity and community fun at our event, where vibrant Chalk and Bubble stations invite everyone to showcase their artistic flair on sidewalks and community murals. Car enthusiasts will enjoy the Classic & Custom Car Show, which features an impressive array of vintage, custom, and all kinds of vehicles. The LGBT Center of Reading is organizing a Color Run, a non-competitive fun run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., complete with an obstacle course and bursts of colored powder.
The excitement continues with live music, a magic show, a stilt walker, face painting, balloon art, and community resource tables, all complemented by a diverse selection of local food trucks serving up delicious snacks, meals, and desserts for purchase.
“The Camel Project’s mission is to address conflict and trauma through modeled learning and community collaboration,” said Pamela S Gockley, Director and Founder of The Camel Project. “Chalkpalooza embodies our values by providing a safe, expressive space where families can bond, de-escalate stress, and foster positive relationships.”
Founded in 2018, The Camel Project is a boots-on-the-ground research and intervention initiative based in Reading, PA. It trains adults and youth to recognize, address, and de-escalate conflict, with a focus on preventing bullying, violence, suicide, and trauma.
