from City of Reading
Riverzilla is back at Riverfront Park, 407 Riverfront Dr., Reading, for its third year on Saturday, Aug. 17. The riverbank cleanup will take place from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., and the Riverzilla event will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
This free, family-friendly event is a collaboration between the City of Reading Public Works Department, Schuylkill River Greenways, Berks Nature, Widoktadwen Center for Native Knowledge, and Take It Outdoors.
The day will begin with a riverbank clean-up at 9 a.m. Please wear sturdy shoes that can get wet. After the cleanup, the event will open at 11 a.m. Take It Outdoors will be providing kayaks and how-to paddle demonstrations, and trail bikes will also be available to try. Other activities will include cornhole, bubbles, fill a truck for Opportunity House accepting donations, watershed education, Native American dancing, crafts, and more.
New to Riverzilla this year is the Opportunity House donation truck. As we are heading back into the school year, Opportunity House is accepting donations for their community thrift store. Attendees can bring gently worn clothes, linens, and furniture in good condition. Berks Ag Resource Network will be accepting physical BARNopoly board submissions. Come turn in your board and tell us about your Ag Adventures.
The Pennsylvania Alliance for Sustainable Agriculture (PASA) will host a basics for seed-saving class for gardeners. The class will be from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
If your organization is interested in participating, please contact Ayashe Ramey at aramey@schuylkillriver.org.
