From City of Reading
The City of Reading is excited to announce the upcoming transformation of the former East Reading Pool site into a dynamic community space. Following the City Council’s approval of the demolition contract on Nov. 25, 2024, demolition activities are scheduled to begin this week.
The project will make way for a new splashpad and more community-based parking. Early design concepts include space for dozens of parking spots and a significant recreational splash area for families and residents to enjoy.
“This redevelopment is a significant investment in our East Reading neighborhood,” said Mayor Eddie Morán. “While the process will take time and require patience, we are confident the result will be a vibrant space that reflects our city’s commitment to community and quality of life.”
Project Timeline:
- Nov. 25, 2024 – City Council awards demolition contract.
- May 2025 – Demolition begins.
- 2025 – Design finalization and grant application period.
- 2026 – Construction of the splashpad and parking area begins.
Temporary Parking Restrictions:
To safely accommodate heavy truck traffic during demolition, parking restrictions will be in place on the pool side of South 14½ Street. These restrictions are expected to last approximately 36 working days or up to two calendar months, beginning in May 2025 and, weather permitting, concluding by July 4, 2025. Work will occur Monday through Friday, from 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Additional parking changes may be implemented as needed during the project.
The City of Reading encourages residents to bear with us during this transitional period. Any questions or concerns can be directed to the Citizens Service Center at 1-877-727-3234 or CSC@ReadingPA.gov.
