From City of Reading
The City of Reading is proud to join the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) in honoring the bravery and sacrifice of our nation’s fallen fire service heroes by participating in “Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters” from Sunday, April 27, to Sunday, May 4.
In a tribute leading up to National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend, landmarks throughout the city will be illuminated in red to recognize and remember those who gave their lives in the line of duty. The following locations in Reading will shine red as part of this national commemoration:
- All six Reading fire stations
- William Penn Memorial Fire Tower
- City Hall
- 5th and Penn
- Penn Street Bridge
“Lighting our city in red is a powerful gesture of remembrance. It’s our way of honoring the firefighters who gave everything in service to others,” said Mayor Eddie Morán. “We stand with their families, their fellow firefighters, and every community that has felt the weight of such a loss. Reading remembers — and we will never forget.”
Fire Chief James Stoudt Jr. echoed this sentiment, stating, “This week is about honoring lives dedicated to service and sacrifice. Every red light we see is a tribute to someone who ran toward danger when others ran away. We carry their memory with us every day, and this is one way we can show our continued respect and gratitude.”
The City of Reading encourages residents and businesses to take part in the tribute by displaying red lights or ribbons in their homes and storefronts.
