Conrad Weiser adds 3 to Hall of Fame

The Conrad Weiser Athletic Hall of Fame added three members during the Scouts’ last home football game.

Former field hockey standout Emily Ruth was inducted from the Hall of Fame Class of 2020, and swimmer Krista Schoener and former field hockey and girls basketball coach Ann Schmidt were inducted for the Class of 2021.

Ruth played Division I field hockey at Wake Forest from 2000-04 when the team was a two-time NCAA champion. She graduated from Conrad Weiser in 2000. She was an All-Berks field hockey player in 1999 and all-division in 1998.

Ruth served as an assistant coach at Stanford for one year and Wake Forest for two. She went on to become an accomplished marathon runner.

Schoener, a former swimmer and 1990 Conrad Weiser graduate, was inducted posthumously. She represented Conrad Weiser at the District 3 Swimming Championships.

Schoener went to to have a successful college swimming career at Shippensburg, where she was a 10-time All-American. At the time of her graduation from Shippensburg, Schoener held school records in the 100 and 200 backstroke and the 400 individual medley.

Schmidt coached Conrad Weiser field hockey for 23 years from 1991-96 and from 2004–20.  Her coaching record was 241-185-8 with division championships in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2009 and 2011.  Her teams qualified for the District 3 playoffs 13 times and were District 3 champions in 2006 and 2010.  She was named Berks County Coach of the Year in 2006 and 2010.

Schmidt also coached the Conrad Weiser girls basketball team for nine years to more than 100 wins.  They were division champs in 1997 and 1998, finished third in District 3 in 1998 and made Weiser’s first state tournament appearance in 1998.
