Emma Perkins, a sophomore at Conrad Weiser, has been voted the Player of the Year on the All-Berks girls tennis team for the second straight season, it was announced Friday.
Perkins won her second straight BCIAA Flight 1 singles title. She also helped the Scouts win their third straight Berks title and second straight District 3 Class 2A team title. Weiser plays in the PIAA Class 2A team semifinals Saturday.
Perkins also teamed with teammate Michelle Timothy to win the District 3 Class 2A doubles title. The state doubles tournament begins Nov. 5.
Also on the eight-member All-Berks team are two other repeat selections and two additional two-time picks. Exeter senior Anya Whitman and Muhlenberg junior Jen Manta made it for the second straight year. Reading High junior Ashley Retana and Wyomissing senior Aly Saad return to the team after making it in 2019. Retana didn’t have a chance to play last fall after the Reading High School Board decided to suspend fall sports due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Rounding out the team are Kutztown senior Sierra Smart and a pair of freshmen in Muhlenberg’s Judith Manta and Hamburg’s Mia Gassert.
Judith Manta is Jen Manta’s younger sister and the BCIAA Flight 1 runner-up. The two sisters teamed to win the BCIAA Flight 1 doubles title and the District 3 Class 3A doubles championship.
