Cornell offensive lineman announces he’s transferring to Penn State

Hunter Nourzad, an All-Ivy League first-team offensive tackle at Cornell, announced Monday that he will transfer to Penn State after the spring semester.

The 6-4, 313-pound Nourzad, who’s from Marietta, Ga., has two years of eligibility remaining and chose the Nittany Lions over Auburn, Illinois, Iowa and Virginia Tech. Louisville, Miami (Fla.), Michigan State, Nebraska, Northwestern, Purdue and Syracuse also offered him scholarships after he entered his name in the NCAA transfer portal in November.

“Thank you to everyone who recruited me during this process,” he wrote on Twitter. “I’ve decided to commit to Penn State to continue my football career.”

Nourzad started every game the last two seasons at Cornell and was named to the Football Championship Subdivision All-America second team by the American Football Coaches Association.

He was Cornell’s representative on the Academic All-Ivy League team. He will graduate in May with a degree in mechanical engineering.

Penn State coaches have tried to improve the offensive line, which was a weak link last season. Nourzad’s announcement gives the Lions five offensive linemen in the Class of 2022 as he joins Vega Ioane, Maleek McNeil and J.B. Nelson.

Penn State already has received commitments from four offensive linemen in the Class of 2023 after four-star Wyomissing junior Jven Williams’ announcement Saturday. He joins five-star prospect Alex Birchmeier and three-star prospects Anthony Donkoh and Joshua Miller.
