Coroner called to scene near Schuylkill River in southeastern Berks

Fire and rescue crews were called to Union Township on Tuesday evening, and later so was the Berks County coroner’s office.

Emergency radio reports showed that state police and the volunteers from fire companies began assembling in the area of Route 724 and Riverbridge Road shortly after 6 p.m.

Their activities were occurring over rough terrain and the coroner’s deputies were summoned and advised that they might not be able to drive vehicles to a particular spot.

Radio traffic showed that some of the units began making themselves available after 9 p.m.

It’s unclear how long into the night the situation might continue. State police and the coroner’s office were not available for comment.
