From County of Berks
The County of Berks was made aware on Tuesday, June 10, of preliminary results of water tests that indicated the presence of Legionella bacteria in the water system of the South Campus facilities at 400 E. Wyomissing Ave. in Mohnton. The County of Berks Leadership Team informed staff about this situation Tuesday afternoon.
Out of an abundance of caution, Berks County has taken the following steps:
- County of Berks staff at the South Campus were dismissed for the day.
- The County’s Facilities Department ordered portable bathrooms and an enclosed, potable drinking water and utility water supply.
- All access to water and bathrooms in the building is being restricted.
According to advised protocols, the building can be occupied safely while these alternative measures for bathroom and water access are in place.
The South Campus facilities will be closed while the building’s water system is chlorinated over the weekend.
The departments and agencies affected include the Area Agency on Aging, Assessment, Mapping, the Workforce Development Board, the Planning Commission, the Industrial Development Authority, the Berks County Redevelopment Authority, Community & Economic Development, the Book Bonanza, County Archives, and the offices of Magisterial District Justice David Yoch.
