Crowd comes out for Kutztown Dinner on Main

Restaurants took over the 200 block of Main Street to showcase their best small menu offerings for Kutztown Community Partnership‘s annual Dinner on Main event on Friday, Aug. 2.

Closed to traffic, tables were set up in the middle of Main Street, where the community enjoyed dinner with family, friends and neighbors while the rock and roll cover band Junior’s Grades entertained the crowd.

Organizers estimate several thousand people came out for the free community event.

“The goal is to help the community enjoy a summer evening out with friends,” Kutztown Community Partnership Outreach Director Barbara Vogelgesang said in a statement. “We strive to make connections between everyone who lives, works and does business in Kutztown. We also are committed to being a catalyst for economic and community development.”

Vogelgesang said Dinner on Main unites the community by providing an evening of music and dining on Main Street that enables people to make memories together.

“This year we included Local Folk Creative Studio who provided a fun craft for our younger guests. It was wonderful to see families and friends gathering over a good meal, talking and laughing,” she said.

Vogelgesang said guests enjoyed being able to choose from 14 different vendors and listen to Junior Grades band provide music.

“Everyone can enjoy and relax on a summer evening,” she said.

Of the 14 vendors, Oomie ZoOmiez served empanadas while Spanish Soul, LLC fired up the smoker for their ribs. Betty’s Burritos & Wraps offered wraps and lemonade and K’town Pub Taphouse & BBQ offered barbecue sauces, sandwiches, smoked wings and tacos. Plus, Pop’s Malt Shoppe dished out ice cream treats.

“We were so happy the rain didn’t stop us from having an incredible evening,” said Vogelgesang.

In addition to the food, Kutztown Strand Theatre hosted a raffle featuring prizes such as movie posters and passes donated by Dorney Park, Miller Symphony Hall, and Chipotle.

Visitors also had the opportunity to support the theatre by taking home artwork by local photographer Emma Ketterer, who will donate 50% of the proceeds to the Strand renovation project.

KCP would like to thank the event’s Entrée VIP Sponsors: Visions Credit Union, Haldeman Ford of Kutztown, kTown Hall Coworking, Russell E. Conrad Inc. Heating Oils, HVAC Services and Stella’s Treats & Grooming Salon.

Dinner on Main serves as a fundraiser for KCP. Proceeds will be reinvested into Kutztown’s downtown community for marketing, event production, environmental initiatives and community programs.
