Cumru Township police seek public’s help in gunfire incident

Cumru Township police responded to reports of gunfire outside a Lancaster Pike sports bar on New Year’s Eve.

According to township police:

Officers were dispatched to Viva Mexico Sports Bar & Grill, 2233 Lancaster Pike, about 2 a.m. on Dec. 31 for reports of shots fired in a parking lot.

Two groups of men argued before one man brandished a handgun. The two groups separated to opposite ends of the parking lot before one or more shots were fired. Patrons fled the scene.

The involved vehicles, one described as red, and the other, as white, were driven away in opposite directions on Lancaster Pike.

Township police recovered ballistic evidence from the neighboring parking lot of Auto Zone, 2207 Lancaster Pike.

Cumru police were assisted by the Wyomissing and Shillington police departments in attempts to locate the vehicles and persons involved.

The incident is still under investigation.
