The Daniel Boone boys and Gov. Mifflin girls qualified for the bracket playoffs at the Eastern PA Regional Bowling Championships Saturday to earn berths in the upcoming state tournament.
The Blazers are among six boys teams and the Mustangs among six girls teams that advanced to the Pennsylvania High School State Championships, which will be held March 18 at Eastway Lanes in Erie.
Boone was seeded fifth after three standard games and six Baker games of qualifying at Leisure Lanes in Mountville. The Blazers were eliminated in the quarterfinals, which also were Baker games, falling to fourth-seeded Manheim Township 2-0 (226-190 and 235-188) at Leisure Lanes.
Berks champion Mifflin was seeded third after the same qualifying format at 222 Dutch Lanes in Ephrata. In the quarterfinals at Leisure Lanes, the Mustangs beat sixth-seeded Pennsbury 2-0 (156-101, 161-156) before falling to second-seeded Penn Manor 3-2 in the semifinals. Mifflin won the first game 176-166 before losing 222-167 and 197-151.
In qualifying for Boone, Jack O’Keefe rolled a three-game series of 628, followed by Kendall Smathers at 604, Evan Miller at 568, Blake Jeitles at 552 and Patrick Moore at 523. The Blazers then rolled 603 and 660 in their two Baker games for a total of 4,138.
Also from Berks, Exeter was 16th out of 36 qualifying teams at 3,992, Wilson 19th at 3,920 and Hamburg 27th at 3,678.
In the boys final, top-seeded Central York defeated second-seeded Cumberland Valley 2-1. The Panthers won the first game 225-171, lost the second 215-193 and won the third 211-162.
In qualifying for Mifflin, Valleri Addis rolled a three-game series of 573, followed by Antonia Pitruzzella at 538, Alisha Hess at 527, Lily Watts at 526 and Serina Miller at 415. The Mustangs rolled 488 and 454 in their two Baker games for a total of 3,521.
Also from Berks, Boone was eighth out of 24 qualifying teams at 3,229, Exeter 11th at 3,118, Wilson 15th at 3,028, Muhlenberg 20th at 2,712 and Conrad Weiser 23rd at 2,515.
In the girls final, top-seeded Shikellamy defeated Penn Manor 2-1. The Braves won the first game 181-136, lost the second 215-198 and won the third 247-150.
Three Berks individuals qualified for states at Friday’s individual Eastern PA Regional Tournament: Antietam’s Ayden Davis and Boone’s Miller in boys, and Mifflin’s Watts in girls.
The individual state tournament is March 17 at Eastway Lanes.
