DEFRANCO: This was CB South’s title all the way

WARRINGTON — This win happened a week ago.

After losing to rival Central Bucks West in Week 9 of the regular season, Central Bucks South returned to beat West in the district semifinals last week. That was the Titans’ Super Bowl.

Friday night’s 27-7, District 1-6A championship victory by CB South over Downingtown West — it was inevitable.

Tell me, who wasn’t gonna hop on the CB South train?

OK, I didn’t know until I saw the start of the game. But it became evident very early.

The CB South Titans were the most physical and athletic team in District 1. And they showed it Friday night, from kickoff.

They beat up D-West up front.

Yes, Downingtown West had a gifted quarterback in Quinn Henicle, whom I’ve met and is a good kid, but that didn’t mean the Whippets were a great team.

They weren’t.

They got out-muscled and out-everythinged.

They also couldn’t hold on to the ball in the biggest moments.

It happens, apparently.

Just saying. Central Bucks South was the better team on this night.

“If I’m being honest, at the beginning of the season, we knew we had a pretty good team,” CB South coach Tom Hetrick said. “We had a lot of experience back on the offensive line, and we knew we had some guys. Would I have predicted that we would be sitting here as the District 1 champions? I’d be lying if I said yes.”

Hetrick is one of the best coaches in the area. He teaches his kids physicality, but he also teaches them the right mentality. He teaches them mental toughness and intelligence on the field.

The right mental approach is everything.

In football and in life.

Tell me I’m wrong.

Hetrick is a seasoned coach in an ultra-competitive region. He has this team exactly where it needs to be right now.

I’m not a betting man, but if I were to bet, I’d bet on Hetrick’s boys.

“We’re a brotherhood,” CB South senior Corey Moore said. “If one person falls down, we pick each other up, next play. We just love each other. It’s a brotherhood.”

A tough road lies ahead. But do you want to bet against Central Bucks South? I don’t.
