District 3 lacrosse playoffs: Wyomissing, Berks Catholic fall in boys 2A

Palmyra defeated Wyomissing 16-6 in the first round of the District 3 Class 2A boys lacrosse tournament on Friday.

Palmyra is the seventh seed and will play second-seeded Lampeter-Strasburg in the quarterfinals on Tuesday.

Wyomissing, the 10th seed, finishes the season 9-9.

For the Spartans, Owen Gibney had 2 goals and 2 assists, and Truman Harmsen and Adam Baker each had 2 goals. George Schwambach had 3 assists. Goalie Keaton Piacine made 13 saves.

Hershey 19, Berks Catholic 9

Hershey defeated Berks Catholic 19-9 in a first round Class 2A boys match on Friday as Tyler Lucas had 7 goals and an assist for the winners.

Berks Catholic, the ninth seed, finishes the season 9-9.

Hershey, the eighth seed, plays top-seeded Trinity in the quarterfinals on Tuesday.

Twin Valley, the third seed, is the only Berks team left in the 2A boys tournament. The Raiders (16-4) host a quarterfinal game Tuesday against the winner of Friday’s match between York Catholic and Garden Spot.

In a 3A girls first round game on Friday, eighth-seeded Wilson defeated ninth-seeded Central Dauphin 17-5 to advance to Tuesday’s quarterfinals where the Bulldogs will play at top-seeded Dallastown at 7 p.m.

In the 2A girls tournament, top-seeded Wyomissing opens play at home Tuesday against ninth-seeded Red Land, a 14-10 winner over Kennard-Dale on Friday.

Also Tuesday in girls 2A, fourth-seeded Twin Valley hosts the winner of Saturday’s York Catholic-Lower Dauphin match.

In boys 3A, Wilson, coming off its 13th straight BCIAA title, plays at home at 7 p.m. Tuesday in a quarterfinal match against the winner of South Western and Ephrata.
